What made you choose the Prophet Rev2?

In short – the sound. I was fortunate enough to visit Yair Albeg Wein earlier this year, and among his impressive collection of synths, the Prophet Rev2 stood out as if it was calling me to play it. I felt an instant connection to its legendary sound, feel, and design. The very next day, I placed my order, and since then, I have been playing it on a daily basis. It has become an integral part of my creative process, allowing me to explore new musical horizons and express myself like never before. The versatility and depth of its sound capabilities continue to inspire me, making every moment spent with the Prophet Rev2 a truly immersive and captivating experience.

How are you using it?

As a film composer, I am constantly on the hunt for new and unique sounds and textures. One cool approach I incorporate into almost every session is playing around with random knobs before I even start designing a new patch. Surprisingly, many of these experimental tweaks end up becoming new patches that find their way into various scores. Whether it’s a comedy or a thriller, I always manage to infuse the warmth and distinctive sounds of the Rev2 into the music.

Lately, I have been exploring the fascinating combination of the Prophet’s warm tones with organic field recordings. This cool blending allows me to craft captivating soundscapes that add a whole new dimension to my compositions. The versatility of the Prophet Rev2 keeps expanding my creative possibilities and keeps my passion for musical exploration alive and thriving.

What is one of your favorite things about it?

One of my absolute favorite aspects is the poly sequencer. The Arpeggiator sequencer feature is truly incredible, and its ability to record ideas on the fly has become an indispensable part of my creative workflow.

Moreover, the Prophet Rev2’s raw analog sound is simply outstanding, and the fact that it doesn’t compromise on voice count was a significant selling point for me. The synthesizer’s simplicity belies its rich and versatile capabilities, making it an absolute joy to explore and create with.

What does it give you that other synths might not?

The Prophet Rev2 provides a one-of-a-kind experience with the power of two stacked Prophet 08s, a user-friendly interface, and a classic sound that sets it apart from other synths. Its versatility and rich capabilities make it an invaluable tool for my music production and sound design.

Any interesting sound design tricks or techniques on the Rev2 you would like to share?

Certainly! One of my favorite sound design tricks on the Rev2 involves an extreme detuning of a chord or a pad, which creates a captivating rising effect or an unsettling feeling in the background. I achieve this by utilizing the oscillator slope mode while being in unison mode. The ability to have multiple voices stack and detune simultaneously is an incredibly cool feature!

By experimenting with the detuning settings, I can add depth and richness to my sounds, making them more dynamic and evocative. This technique works wonders in a variety of musical contexts, from building tension in suspenseful scenes to adding a unique touch to ethereal soundscapes. The Prophet Rev2’s versatility and user-friendly interface make it an excellent playground for sound exploration, and this detuning trick is just one of many ways to unlock its true potential in shaping my sonic palette.
